What is Delta 8?

At Café la Muerte, we have recently launched our new Delta 8 THC Coffee, which takes freshly roasted, small-batch coffee beans and infuses them with delta 8 extract.

While we have been focusing heavily on the CBD (cannabidiol) compound in the hemp plant, scientists have been hard at work researching minor compounds and sharing with us their fascinating properties.  One of the latest compounds from hemp to hit the scene is delta-8 THC, which is a cannabinoid that’s quite unique from the others found in the plant’s chemical composition.

Delta-8 THC

Delta 8-THC is a naturally occurring cannabinoid found in the hemp plant, making up about 0.1% of its total chemical composition.  Only recently has delta 8 been isolated and extracted from the compound in a way that allows us to experience the total capabilities of its individual properties.

So, what is delta 8, and why is it unique?  Well, it’s in fact the delta 9 compound that has oxidized by aging in the plant’s chemical structure, making it milder yet still capable of delivering desirable effects.  It is commonly extracted using a distillation process which gently isolates the compound in a way that’s clean, pure and natural.

The Properties of Delta-8 THC

Delta 8 is a cannabinoid, and therefore it behaves like other cannabinoids by binding to cannabinoid receptors in the body to regulate certain bodily processes.  To be more specific, delta 8 binds to CB1 receptors in the body’s nervous system, which may explain why so many people feel both calmer after taking it, and uplifted.

Research on delta 8 is limited presently, because the compound in its isolated form is extremely new.  But, so far, studies have suggested that it may offer some form of relief from anxiety, pain, neurological dysfunction, nausea, and problems relating to appetite.

Beyond that, delta 8 is a psychoactive compound, but its psychoactive effects aren’t as strong as those of delta-9 THC.  What this means is that you can experience a mild high after taking it, which may offer desirable effects to your overall mood.

The Legality of Delta-8 THC

We know what you’re thinking – how can a psychoactive cannabis compound be legal?  Well, in 2018, the United States declared that hemp and its many derivatives could be sold legally.  Delta 9 remains illegal, which is why the law states that hemp products cannot contain more than 0.3% delta-9 THC.  Delta-8 does not contain delta 9, and it is a derivative of hemp, thus making it legal.

Some states have outlawed delta 8, so before you attempt to purchase a product made with the cannabinoid, you’ll want to double-check that it’s legal to use where you live.  Further, it’s important to note that there is a risk that delta 8 will interfere with a standard urine-based drug test used for employees.

Delta 8 THC Coffee

At Café la Muerte, we’ve developed a unique way to experience the fascinating properties of delta 8 without Delta 8 THC Coffee.  We have carefully infused our signature small-batch coffee beans with delta-8 extract, along with full spectrum hemp that offers the body a dazzling array of cannabinoids, terpenes and nutrients, with its dominant compound being CBD.

Delta 8 coffee can be a great way to introduce your body to the distinctive properties of the delta 8 compound.  For one thing, drinking the extract allows for a uniquely bioavailable means for consuming it, which can offer more noticeable effects in a shorter period of time.  Further, delta 8 and caffeine work together synergistically to balance each other’s effects.  The delta 8 could help you maintain a sense of calm that fends off caffeine jitters, while the caffeine can boost alertness that prevents delta 8 from potentially making you feel sleepy or “out of it.”

Using Delta 8 for the First Time

If you’ve never experienced delta 8 before, it’s important to know what to expect when taking it for the first time.  We always recommend that you try delta 8 when you don’t have any important responsibilities or driving needs for a few hours.  This way, you can explore its effects without worrying about them getting in the way of something that you have to do.

Delta 8’s psychoactive properties are tolerance-dependent, meaning that the less your body has experience with THC, the stronger those properties will feel.  Over time, we do build up a tolerance to these intoxicating properties, so that they feel gentle in the body.

The effects of delta 8, as we said earlier, are milder than those of delta 9.  Most people who use delta 8 say that they feel relaxed, uplifted and alert after taking it.

Final Opinions

Delta 8 THC is a hemp compound with properties that are quite distinctive, and one of the best ways to explore these properties is by drinking them in the form of a delta 8-infused coffee.  Now that you know about the effects of this cannabinoid, you can know what to expect when starting a routine with our Delta 8 THC Coffee.  The balance produced by the blend of these two ingredients provides an experience unlike any other delta 8 product on the market, and each daily cup can enhance your routine in a multitude of ways.
